Imran Khan suspends Mian Akram Usman, the general secretary of his party PTI’s Lahore chapter over posters that featured an insulting slogan targeting the minority Hindus. Usman had put up the poster in connection with Kashmir Solidarity Day, which was observed across the country on February 5, with the slogan “Hindu baat se nahi, laat se maanta hai” (Hindus can
not be reasoned with using words but by force). Imran deserves my praise for this. I just remember a few days back Adityanath, the chief minister of India biggest state UP, one of the most venomous right wing politician around, a Muslim hater, saying during one of his campaign meeting for Delhi elections regarding the Shaheen Bagh protesters, Muslim women sitting out there, “Boli se nahi manega toh goli chala do’ (If someone doesn’t understand with dialogue then open fire)?”. BJP MP Parvesh Verma openly called Shaheen Bagh protesters as rapists and killers, Union minister Anurag Thakur chanted the genocidal slogan “Desh ke ghaddaron ko, Goli maaro saalon ko in one of his camping meeting”, Union minister Giriraj Singh alleged that the Shaheen Bagh protest is giving training to suicide bombers. These are just a few examples, the list of such communal, genocidal bigots is too long in India, the state openly promotes them, rather it’s the state policy of hate which they promote so brazenly, the nationalist media helps them in doing so while the police acts as their private militia. Can we imagine any such politician in India being suspended or punished by the BJP fer hate speech? No, they will be treated just like Kapil Mishra was with an MLA ticket for his “Goli maaro…..” slogan.
