” Health is greatest gift,
Contentment the greatest wealth,
Faithfulness the best relationship… #Buddha

In Akhilesh Yadav

Greetings to all on the occasion of #vesak2021 or #buddhapurnima2021 . At the time when India faces the toughest challenge to protect human lives, the message of Buddha becomes more important and highly relevant. No society can claim to be a civilized one as long as it does not respect equality among human being irrespective of their caste, religion or regional identities. Buddha gave an alternative way of life to people suffering from a discriminatory social order that ensured monopoly of a community over our social cultural economic and political life. Buddhism gave a humanist alternative to brahmanism in India.

The forces of divisiveness and hatred are enjoying patronage of power. It is these same forces who want to appropriate Buddha as nth incarnation of brahmanical God.

The Covid 19 as well as other calamities are warning us to mend our ways. We not only have to listen to science and intellect but also develop love and compassion to fellow human being. In a society living in perpetual hatred and contempt towards those happened to be born in particular castes, it is important to follow reasoning and humanism from the life and message of Buddha.

For me, Buddhism is what Baba Saheb Ambedkar explained in Buddha and his Dhamma as well 22 vows that millions of his followers now practice.

The current economic model and developmental model is highly unsustainable. A Buddhist alternative to mindless ravaging our naturally heritage in the name of development is the need of the hour.

Wish you all safe and protected days ahead. May there be enlightenment everywhere and people care for each others.
