I can’t believe I am writing this. Our favorite Deano is no more among us.
The Boxing Day Test could be filled with Victorians wearing sunglasses and zinc on the bottom lip as a tribute to local legend Dean Jones.
The hero of tied Madras Test, Deano leaves us! We, Indians cannot forget him ever. Jones will forever be remembered for his 210 in stifling conditions during the tied Test in 1986.
We as kids, were sitting on the edge, watching the match. The first Test to get tied was in 1960, played between West Indies and Australia in Brisbane.
This also happened to be the first tie in cricket history. And the tied test was played in Chennai involved Australia and India and Dean Jones became a legend.
May the fascinating cricketer and character live in peace forever. You taught and hugely inspired us in playing the game we played.
Sad to hear about Dean Jones death. He was an amazing batsman, his signature shot- flick towards the leg side- will be remembered by all those who saw him play.
I always regarded Kim Hughes, Dean Jones and Ricky Ponting in the same mould- aggressive and stylish Aussie batsmen from 1980s- 2010s.
I have not watched cricket regularly after 1999 World Cup but I understand that he became a well-regarded cricket commentator and also coached Islamabad United in PSL. He will be missed by his fans.
